Aberdeen City Council is the lead partner in the Workwise digital programme, funded by Ufi VocTech Trust. It is a collaboration between Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council and North East Scotland College.

Aberdeen City Council, in partnership with Gateway Shared Services, have developed the Workwise Platform to support school leavers and adults to enter, return, or progress towards the job market.

This work supports our local outcome improvement plan; regional economic strategy and the No One Left Behind strategy.

ABZ Works

ABZ Works is a service available to Aberdeen residents who are looking for support to develop confidence, knowledge, skills or experience so they can work towards achieving their goals of progressing into employment, education or training.

We deliver a range of employability programmes for those aged between 16 and 67, supporting people from all walks of life and at all stages of their working life. We also provide a range of redundancy advice and support.

In partnership with Station House Media Unit, Aberdeenshire Council are producing 30 sector-based videos that show real people in their workplace, carrying out their daily functions, led by local employers. Link to videos will be here, and on this platform. The scope is to create a menu of videos targeting different areas, occupations or sectors within North East Scotland.

These locally created and voiced videos highlight roles, rates of pay, training, qualifications, progression & opportunities. They will also provide practical information such as travel routes and childcare etc..

The Ready to Return programme exists because for some people, coming back to education can feel daunting, and people can often feel unsure of where to start. Many have been away from learning, balancing work, caring responsibilities or big life changes. This programme has been created to remove barriers, rebuild confidence and give learners the essential skills they need to succeed. 

Ready to Return is a flexible, self-paced programme designed for adults coming back to learning, whether it’s been a year or a few decades. This course focuses on building confidence, developing essential study skills, and strengthening your digital know-how at a pace that works for you. 

This course also offers practical guidance for the real-life bits that matter, from planning finances to understanding where the routes of progression lead to.  To register your interest please email readytoreturn@nescol.ac.uk.
